Light up a local kid’s day with Nationwide Children’s donation drive

As the holiday season approaches, a new tradition + spectacle is lighting up Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Light Up the Lawn, Light Up a Life is a new campaign from the local hospital where dozens of large butterfly displays flocked their way onto the lawn + exterior walls. Whenever a $10+ donation is made, these butterflies will light up, giving pediatric patients and families a unique light show each time.

Donations can be made online, and the hospital is livestreaming its lawn so donors can watch the light show in real time. Additionally, from now until Friday, Nov. 26, NRG, a Houston-based energy company, will match donations up to $25,000.

Nationwide Children’s CEO Tim Robinson said these donations will be used to support the life-saving work at the hospital. This includes support for therapy programs, family support services, and clinical research. He also hopes this brings some added holiday spirit to the hospital for those who are unable to be home for the holidays.

If you are looking to make a large donation, there are added perks for patients and staff:
  • $100: A blue butterfly pillow and cheer card will be delivered to one patient.
  • $500: Five blue butterfly pillows and cheer cards will be delivered to five patients.
  • $1,000: Sponsor an 18-inch blue butterfly table and have a sweet treat basket delivered to a staff workstation.
This new tradition extends beyond Nationwide as five other local spots now feature illuminating butterflies. Keep an eye for them at Easton Town Center, the Short North, Columbus Commons, Bridge Park at Dublin, and the John Glenn International Airport.
