Did you know on February 14, 1812, Columbus was settled as a city? Move over Valentine’s Day, it’s Columbus’ birthday.

City Editors Hanna + Mitch want to celebrate accordingly. So, we’re not lighting candles this year — rather, we are making this our love letter to the city. This is an open invitation too; what do you love most about Columbus? Send us an email and spread the feeling.

City Editor Mitch

As someone who grew up in a small town, I have always loved exploring the city. Some of my favorite things include eating at restaurants, especially the quieter, no frills spots like Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace or Jack & Benny’s.

I also love going to all the various festivals, like ComFest, or monthly events like Franklinton Fridays. These are among the best highlights of Columbus as some are 50+ year old traditions while others celebrate the bright future to come — which together feels symbolic of our growing city.

City Editor Hanna

As a big sports fan, one of the reasons I love Columbus is because of the sports teams to cheer for. I love rooting for the Buckeyes, sitting at Huntington Park for a Clippers game, and celebrating in Arena District when the Blue Jackets are home.

I also enjoy staying active outdoors, and there is always a scenic path or trail to enjoy, whether it’s the Scioto Mile or one of the many metro parks. And there’s never a lack of dining options after a nice long walk.

In just four days, a handful of Columbusites will get a first look at the all-new Columbus Brewing Company Beer Hall.

The local brewery announced on Monday that it will host a soft opening on Saturday, Feb. 18 + it sold out within an hour. Needless to say, the hype is real.

So what is all the hype about? This new spot in Franklin Park will offer 13,000 sqft of space inside a historic building that was originally designed as a trolley repair shop. Now, CBC wants it to be your parking spot for a good local beer as it will feature 24 beer taps, a globally inspired food menu, and close proximity to East Market.

We will be following this closely to see when the official opening date is, but until then, give the Beer Hall a follow on Instagram to stay in the loop.
    THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Mitch.

Editor’s pick: With football season officially coming to a close, here are some friendly reminders that football never ends in Columbus. There are only 200 more days until college football returns on Saturdays + we’ll still get a small taste of the Buckeyes on Saturday, April 15 for the spring game. Sit tight until then, Columbusites... 🏈
