Crews broke ground on Thursday for Rumpke’s new $90 million recycling facility, so we had to head there over the weekend and see it for ourselves. Grab your hard hat, because we’re about to dig up the details on this project.
🏗️ The basics
Moody Nolan is the project architect + Elford is the builder. The project, located at 1178 Joyce Ave., is in Columbus’ American Addition neighborhood.
♻️ Project scope
Although it currently looks like a large plot of land, construction crews were already hard at work turning the land into the largest recycling facility in North America. Upon completion, the facility will have the capability of processing 250,000 tons of recycling materials. Robots will assist with recycling, using artificial intelligence to sort, separate, and scan materials.

🤝 Community involvement
We already got our own sneak peek, but you’ll have your chance to see the action as well. When the facility is up and running, it will be open to the community for tours and educational opportunities to watch the recycling process. There will be a designated meeting space for the community as well.
Rumpke also plans to ensure job opportunities and scholarships to those living in the nearby neighborhood of the facility.
