Ohio State’s slogan is “The People. The Tradition. The Excellence.” + the slogan has never made more sense than after spending the day behind the scenes at the OSU vs. Notre Dame game. 🏈

The People

We all have one thing in common on game dayswe’re rooting for the Buckeyes. It’s a feeling of unity that can’t be described until you experience it. On this particular game day, certain people made the experience even more special.
  • Grammy-nominated rapper Jack Harlow was the first guest picker of the season on ESPN’s College GameDay, and he chose Ohio State to win + performed.
  • Former Buckeye and current Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow made an appearance and was recognized on the field during the first quarter — and the fans went wild.
  • LeBron James and his son Bronny wore Buckeyes gear on the sidelines to cheer on their favorite team — and they had everyone starstruck, including City Editor Hanna.

The Tradition

There are few Columbus traditions stronger than a game day tailgate. We walked around outside The Shoe and stopped by different tailgates to hear how excited everyone was about the big game.

Another tradition that never fails is the OH-IO chant. Before the game, we were sitting in the quiet press box. But throughout the stadium, we could hear each of the four sides of The Shoe chanting “O-H-I-O” with echoes throughout the stadium.

TBDBITL’s halftime performances are another timeless tradition, and they put on quite the show on Saturday with a “Buckeye Jazz Cafe” theme.

The Excellence

There’s a reason people in Columbus always bet on the Buckeyesthey rarely let us down. They proved their excellence yet again with a 21-10 victory over the Fighting Irish in this top five matchup. We all sang Carmen Ohio together, and now we can sleep peacefully until next Saturday. Go Bucks.

Hanna 🤝 LeBron

Lebron-James-CBUS
City Editor Hanna thinks LeBron is the GOAT. | Photo by CBUStoday
We mentioned LeBron and his son were in attendance to Saturday’s game, but we didn’t share why — or that City Editor Hanna was lucky enough to meet the father-son duo. Both LeBron and Bronny were extremely friendly to fans + decked out in Buckeyes gear on the sidelines, but they were here for more than just the football game.

Bronny just started his senior year of high school, which means he’s considering college basketball options for next year. With the James family being from Ohio, Bronny is strongly considering OSU as a potential future school. Before Saturday’s game, LeBron and Bronny attended an unofficial visit to OSU’s campus with the men’s basketball coaching staff.

Securing the four-star prospect for next season would be huge, as Bronny would be joining four star players who have already verbally committed to OSU — Scotty Middleton, Austin Parks, Devin Royal and George Washington III.

Today’s edition was written by City Editor Hanna.

Editor’s pick: Happy Monday, CBUS. I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day Weekend. You may have noticed that every few months, I run a “superlatives” food story. I’ve dished out a sushi superlatives, mac and cheese superlatives, ice cream superlatives, and pizza superlatives story featuring top options across the city.

What food would you like us to feature next? Let me know.
