Skiing and snowboarding resorts close to Columbus

No need to head out west to hit the slopes this winter. With a ~50-minute drive, you can ski, snowboard, or tube at Mad River Mountain and Snow Trails. Grab your snow pants and helmet, because it’s all downhill from here.

🏂 Mad River Mountain, 1000 Snow Valley Rd.

As the largest ski resort in Ohio, this Zanesville mountain is opening soon for the winter season. Here’s some need-to-know info before you say ski you later.

Due to warmer weather conditions this year, the snow making process has been a little slower. You can stay tuned for an opening date on the resort’s Instagram page.
The mountain will be open for skiing and snowboarding seven days a week + snow tubing will be open Thursday-Sunday.
View the trail map to find difficulty levels of different trails and lifts.
Purchase lift tickets online a week in advance for the best savings.
Adult lessons, children’s lessons, and private lessons are available to book online.
There’s nearby lodging available if you plan to stay.

🎿 Snow Trails, 3100 Possum Run Rd.

Located in Mansfield, Snow Trails reopens tomorrow before the official kickoff party on Saturday. Here’s what else you should keep on your radar this season:

Bookings for skiing must be made 48 hours in advance and you save $10 on bookings made after 4 p.m.
Children’s programs are held in a beginners area.
Glow tubing is available Thursday-Sunday in lit-up lanes + sells out quickly.
There will be five nights of live entertainment throughout the season, starting this Saturday, Dec. 17.
Give a Snow Bucks gift card as a present this holiday season, and it can be used for anything from food to apparel to lift tickets.

Columbus City Council approved a $250,000 electric bike (e-bike) rebate program in efforts to reduce climate change in the city from transportation. The city will work with Smart Columbus on the discount program, which is expected to launch in the spring of 2023. 🚲 (Columbus Underground)

Adam Sandler, known for his comedic roles in classics like “Billy Madison” and “Happy Gilmore,” is coming to Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 7 for a standup comedy show. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon. 🎤

Maple Street Biscuit Co., a Nashville-based breakfast spot, is opening its first Ohio location at 1310 Polaris Pkwy on Thursday, Jan. 5. Open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, the restaurant will serve biscuit sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, breakfast meats, and waffles. 🧇 (Columbus Business First)

Eli Young Band, a Grammy-nominated country group with hits like “Crazy Girl” + “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” is coming to The Bluestone on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $30. 🎶

Wondering which wines to stock up with for the holidays? Barcelona Restaurant is hosting a holiday wine tasting on Monday, Dec. 19 from 5-7 p.m. For $25, you can sample 25 different wines + enjoy a cold tapas bar. 🍷

Sports

OSU head coach Ryan Day previewed the upcoming College Football Playoff game at a press conference, stating the Buckeyes are “refocused, re-energized and spirited.” If you want to watch the Bucks in Atlanta, there’s still time to secure your Peach Bowl package. 🏈

Columbus Brew Festival is set for Saturday, March 11 from 8-11 p.m. at COSI. General admission tickets are $50 and include 150 beer samples from 50 breweries as well as access to the museum after hours. The festival is 21+ only. 🍺
