Winter is in full swing + so is our guide for making the most of date night this season.

Last year, we focused on Franklinton, and our eyes are still set on the art district, but this time it’s even easier than before. All three of our suggestions — dinner, drinks, and an activity — come from one location: The Idea Foundry. Let’s take a closer look.

🔨 Activity | Maker Date Night, 421 W. State St.

Date night needs to be fun + that’s exactly what you’ll find on Friday, Feb. 10 from 7-10 p.m. You and your partner will make your way through various maker stations with each one based on a different style of crafting, including woodworking, welding, and metal forming. If one looks daunting or unappealing, feel free to skip it and spend more time at a different stand, as guests typically get through four to six stands in one evening. Tickets are on sale now.

Can’t make it on Friday? This brunch option is available on Saturday, Feb. 11 + offers a similar experience from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

🍕 Dinner + Drinks | Build-your-own pizza

No need to leave for food as the DIY-adventure continues with dinner at the Idea Foundry, as guests can also build their own pizzas. Other options available include a cheese and charcuterie board for snacking, which will be paired with different types of wine, craft beer, and non-alcoholic options.

Looking for more afterwards? BrewDog Franklinton and Yellow Brick Pizza are less than a half mile away.

A new local bookseller will soon join the Columbus ranks as Serenity Book Shop is set to open at 1806 W. Fifth Ave. sometime in April. In addition to books, the store will also host live music events + offer café-style drinks like coffee. 📚 (614now)

Development

The North Market Downtown has closed the parking lot located directly outside the building in preparation for construction on the Merchant Building. Alternative parking options can be found at the garage on Vine Street, or at meters on Goodale Street. 🏗 (Columbus Business First)

Transportation

Travel times downtown could become faster after COTA announced plans to design rapid transit lines in the area. The new system would be located on W. Broad Street + E. Main Street with hopes to be built in 2026. 🚌 (NBC4)

Highway to the fan zone 🏒

Columbus Blue Jackets unveil new state-of-the-art fan zone

When it comes to rooting for the Columbus Blue Jackets, hockey nights have never had so much fanfare until now.

The local hockey club unveiled its latest addition to Nationwide Arena, which brings a dedicated 4,000-sqft space near section 118 overlooking the practice rink. This new fan zone was designed to look like the CBJ locker room + here’s what fans can expect when they enter:

eSports Arena — Complete with seven Xbox consoles that are loaded up with NHL 23, the latest virtual hockey game from EA.
Slapshot Challenge — Attempt to score virtual goals through different challenges such as beat the goalie, target practice, and a speed test.
Goalie Challenge — Try to stop all five shots from scoring.
Pose with the Pros — Fans can take a photo with a virtual version of popular players like Boone Jenner, Johnny Gaudreau, and Zach Werenski.
