Shoutout to planet Earth for keeping us all grounded. Let’s celebrate.

Saturday, April 22 marks Earth Day — an annual holiday that is celebrated by more than a billion people across 193 countries. This year’s campaign is “Invest In Our Planet,” and to help you do so, EarthDay.org has a plethora of resources that can help you get involved on local, national, and global levels. A few of our favorites include:
Interested in volunteering with a local environmental org in honor of Earth Day? Look no further than The City of Columbus Recreation and Parks and Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks.

Additionally, here are a few must-know facts about the history of Earth Day:
  • Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson spearheaded the creation of Earth Day after witnessing an oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. Under his leadership, the first Earth Day was in 1970.
  • The first Earth Day sparked an outpouring of environmental activism, and less than six months later, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the US Environmental Protection Agency were formed.
  • Earth Day went global in 1990.

Santos just opened as a rebranded version of Chophouse614 in the Short North, and we stopped in to give it a try. The same pink decor remained, but fun, Instagrammable signs were added throughout the restaurant, making it a great spot for your next night out.

While some staples stayed on the menu, like the steaks, other items like the street tacos and the tequila-based drink menu are new additions. Here’s what we tried:

🍸 Drinks

  • White Orchid Martini — served with an edible flower
  • Lycheetini — fruity and sweet, but strong
  • Spicy Tango — a spicy mezcal finish
  • Kentucky Lemonade — made with bourbon and ginger ale

🍽️ Dinner

  • Trio combo — salsa, queso, and housemade guacamole (which was our favorite) served with chips
  • Chicken street tacos — two tacos served with sauteed chicken and Mexican street corn
  • BBQ jalapeno flatbread — sweet and tangy sauce with a kick
Make a reservation online to check out the new spot.
