What to know about the Bird Tunnel Party in Columbus, Ohio

Table of Contents

The Bird Tunnel Party takes place on Sun., Sept 4, and when it comes to underground parties, it takes that term literally. This dance party led by local DJs and electronic musicians happens under the Bird Tunnel at Glen Echo Park from 12-7 p.m..

Here’s what you need to know before you get your groove on.

For a good cause

Each year, the not-for-profit organization aims to enrich the surrounding community near Clintonville and S. Hudson St. through donations earned at this event. This year’s party benefits FLOW, a nonprofit that works to keep the Olentangy River clean and safe. And in 2019, they raised funds for Bridgeway Academy, a local school for those with developmental disabilities.

The tunes

The free event is packed with musicians throughout the day, including local artists and, for the first time, artists from outside of Ohio. In total, seven acts are set to perform, such as J. Rawls, a DJ + musician from Columbus who has worked with famous rappers like Mos Def.

Restoration redux

Last year, artists worked to restore the mural under the Bird Tunnel. This year’s event looks to build off the success of last year by continuing the restoration project of the Bird Tunnel. The organization secured Isabel Frances Bongue, an Ohio artist, to create a new mural for the space featuring birds and nature.

Parking

Parking is available along Indianola Avenue, but its organizers encourage visitors to walk or bike as the Bird Tunnel Party is an eco-friendly event.
