  1. James Thurber: A Columbus-born author best known for his cartoons published in The New Yorker.
  2. Eddie Rickenbacker: A highly decorated World War I fighter ace and a race car driver born in CBUS in 1890.
  3. Jesse Owens: A former OSU track star who won four gold medals and shattered world records at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
  4. Granville T. Woods: Sometimes called “Black Edison,” he made major technological and electrical contributions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
