They say you never forget your first kiss —or the bliss of your first bite of cheese. But what you may not know is that the cheese you’ve enjoyed all these years may have originated right here in Ohio.

The Buckeye State is home to nearly 30 cheesemakers, some of which have been churning out local favorites since the turn of the century. In fact, Baby Swiss cheese was invented right here in Millersburg, Ohio, by Guggisberg Cheese.

If you’re on the hunt this holiday season for local, tasty + one-of-a-kind gifts, consider a stop at ShopOhioCheese.com – a savory destination for all things Ohio cheese with specialty cheesemaker’s gifts curated by the American Dairy Association Mideast.

Here’s some of our favorites that’ll have you saying, “You brie-long with me.”

There’s nothing like a home cooked meal — especially when home is Columbus.

And, you don’t have to take our word for it. Just ask Essence Magazine, a modern publication dedicated to Black women. It recently released its top foodie destinations to visit in 2024, and CBUS made the cut.

“Don’t laugh. Columbus has gastronomical game,” wrote Sheryl Nance-Nash, author of the Essence article. “Take it from me, you’ll be impressed with what’s cooking in Columbus.”

Sheryl also gave shoutouts. She tipped her cap to Chef BJ Lieberman and Hiraeth + Chef Sadaya “Daisy” Lewis and Modern Southern Table in Budd Dairy Food Hall.

This isn’t a small feat, either. Other cities on this list include Paris, Barcelona, and Mexico City.
