Hey there, CBUS — Hanna Williford + Mitch Hooper here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with 85,000+ readers and followers in Columbus, daily.

With more than two years of bringing you CBUStoday, we thought we should formally re-introduce ourselves.

Meet City Editor Hanna Williford

Q: If you could only write about one CBUS-specific topic for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Sports. I love covering the Buckeyes, Clippers, Blue Jackets, and Crew.

Q: Fill in the blank: The coolest person I’ve met in CBUS is ___________.

A: LeBron James... but also honorable mention for Guy Fieri and Dave Portnoy.

Q: What makes you the local expert in Columbus?

A: I am always immersing myself in the local happenings, whether it’s attending a new restaurant opening, strolling a scenic park, or attending an OSU football game.

Meet City Editor Mitch Hooper

Q: Describe your perfect day in CBUS in the length of a Tweet.

A: A mid-70s summer morning at the Clintonville Farmers Market, with a cold brew in hand and a bag full of farm-fresh tomatoes.

Q: If you were taking someone on a tour around CBUS, where are the three places you’re going?

A: Spend the morning in Clintonville, shopping around vintage stores. Then, an afternoon in German Village, walking through the park + grabbing coffee. And lastly, finish the night downtown at a sporting event or local brewery.

Q: Hit us with your favorite piece of local trivia

A: It’s thanks to this position that I now grieve a defunct passenger rail that was well before my time.

News Notes

Concert

Grammy Award-winner Justin Timberlake will perform at Nationwide Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 23. This concert will feature new music off his latest album, “Everything I Thought It Was.” Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m.

Opening

DiBella’s Subs, a New York-based sandwich chain, is opening a third CBUS location on Wednesday, March 6 at 7105 N. High St. in Worthington. The first 30 guests in line will receive free subs for a year. The sub shop will be open everyday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (10TV)

Eat

Alphabet Comfort Kitchen announced it will be leaving Budd Dairy Food Hall to move into a standalone location. The popular burger and fries restaurant will close on Sunday, Feb. 18. No firm date or address was announced about the new location. (614now)

We’d like to speak with the manager. Columbus was ranked the No. 81 best football city, according to WalletHub. Cincinnati led the Buckeye State at No. 11, and Cleveland came in at No. 25.

Civic

Did you know it’s illegal to ride your bicycle on the sidewalk in CBUS? This was a topic for discussion at the latest City Council meeting, where advocates are pushing for changes to the city’s bike laws. Council said they would investigate dangerous roads + possible changes to city codes.

Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras are on Tuesday, Feb. 13 + local Columbus bakeries are firing up their ovens for a traditional treat. These jelly-filled delights are packzi, and here’s where you can find them.

This campus-based donut shop is open 24/7, meaning you can satisfy your cravings for a blueberry, strawberry, or lemon paczki at any hour of the day.

Resch’s Bakery, 4061 E. Livingston Ave.

There’s a reason this is the top search result for “paczki in Columbus.” These delicious treats come in strawberry, blueberry, and lemon.

Destination Donuts, 3519 N. High St.

Keep your paczki plant-based with the vegan selection available at this Clintonville bakery. The shop is closed on Tuesdays, so you’ll have to get yours early or late.
