Spring has sprung, CBUS.
It’s officially the season of April showers and May flowers, and we are happily closing the door on winter. We just hope winter lets us close the door. Though we can’t control an unexpected late snow storm, we can plan ahead with these can’t-miss seasonal happenings.
Time to game
Get a quick dose of college football with the 2024 Spring Game. The Ohio State Buckeyes will play on Saturday, April 13 at 12 p.m. inside Ohio Stadium. Tickets start at $8, and parking is free.
The OSU women’s basketball team is also playing in the first round of NCAA Tournament at the Schott on Friday, March 22 at 12 p.m. Grab tickets for the entire day of action.
Try something new
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium unveiled “UNEXTINCT,” a new immersive nighttime experience featuring LED light displays. The after-hours event takes place on Thursday, Friday + Saturday throughout select dates in March and April, including an adults-only night on Friday, April 12.

Time to gaze
On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross over central Ohio, making this event arguably the most “can’t-miss” of them all. Be sure to pick up protective eyewear, which can be found at select Columbus Metropolitan Library locations.
Learn something new
Did you know COSI’s Science Festival is the largest STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) event in Ohio? It returns on Wednesday, May 1-Saturday, May 4, encouraging local families to get in touch with the fun side of learning.

Construction on Intel’s semiconductor factory in New Albany has been delayed again, according to a progress report from Gov. Mike DeWine and the tech company. The most recent release estimates construction completion in 2026-27, and the factories being fully operational in 2027-28.
Civic
Columbus City Council approved nearly $15 million in grants to support the Community Shelter Board, a local nonprofit assisting those experiencing homelessness. This grant money will be used for operating expenses, and roughly 66% comes from ARPA money from COVID. (The Columbus Dispatch)
Opening
A new Chick-fil-A is headed to Polaris Parkway. The popular fast food chain will demolish the former MacKenzie River Pizza Pub & Grill, located at 1515 Polaris Pkwy., and build a brand new restaurant in its place. No timeline for construction was released. (Columbus Business First)
Show
Pride Live, a social advocacy organization for the LGBTQ+ community, will take over the Southern Theatre on Sunday, June 16. The show celebrates and highlights the 50+ year history of LGBTQ+ progress in America. Tickets start at $34 and are on sale now.
Concert
Lauren Daigle, a contemporary Christian singer with chart-topping hits like “You Say,” will perform at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. Additionally, Stephen Sanchez, a rising pop musician, will come to the Fair on Thursday, Aug. 1. Stay tuned for two more show announcements in April.
Biz
Cloudbreak Health LLC, a Columbus-based tech and healthcare business, was acquired by a Chicago firm for $180 million. This means Cloudbreak will continue to be headquartered in CBUS and not relocate like many previously speculated. (Columbus Business First)

March isn’t just the start of spring; it’s also the beginning of kitten season. Colony Cats, a local cat welfare organization, said they helped care for 450+ kittens last March. They remind owners to get their outdoor cats fixed before their family rapidly grows. (NBC4)

Ohio Stadium is known for football, but in August — it will house fútbol.
Manchester City and Chelsea FC, two soccer clubs from the Premier League in England, will play a match inside Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 3 as part of the 2024 FC Series. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 27 at 10 a.m.
Both the Columbus Crew and The Ohio State University agree: This is a big score for the city.
“This match up truly puts Columbus on the international stage drawing fans from all over the United States and beyond,” said Xen Riggs, Ohio State Department of Athletics Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
It’s the second time in Columbus history that an international soccer game will be hosted here, and it will feature two of the best soccer clubs in the world. They are the only clubs to win multiple Premier League titles in the last decade.
