Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16, and we’re here to make sure you can celebrate accordingly with these 10 suggestions.

⚾ Get playful with pops

If your dad is in the mood to get active or try something new, we recommend:
  • Columbus Axe Throwing — Get the adrenaline going by throwing axes at a target (with professional safety measures in place, of course).
  • X-Golf Columbus — Work on your golf game together with an indoor golf simulator.
  • Columbus Clippers game — Cheer on the Clip Show and play catch with your dad on the field after the game.
  • Free fishing weekend — Head to any of the public waters in Ohio without the need for a fishing license.
  • CoGo Bike Share — Rent bikes and explore trails throughout the city.

🌭 Foodie fathers

Wine and dine with dad at any of these local spots:
  • Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace — Sometimes dads just need a good dog... hot dog that is. Try from topping options like baked beans, coleslaw, and crushed potato chips.
  • The Kee — Come for weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and stay for arcade games, cornhole, pool, and ping pong.
  • Matt the Miller’s Tavern — Try Sunday brunch from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Dublin location.
  • Wario’s Beef and Pork — If your father figure loves a good sandwich, try the steak, roasted pork, or chicken cutlet. Pro tip: You have to get the spuds with cheese whiz on the side.
  • The Top Steakhouse — Sometimes you can’t beat a classic steak dinner for dad, or mix it up with jumbo lobster tails, roasted ribs, and seafood.

How cities in Ohio earned their names

We looked to our readers for what Ohio city names stuck out to them. Here’s what they said:

“I grew up in Akron, from the Greek word “akros”, meaning the top (like the acropolis). And, it’s in Summit County, continuing the theme. The irony is that the elevation of Akron is not very high, and not even close to being the highest point in Ohio.” — Reader Larry D.

“I’m originally from North Canton which was first settled in 1805 by German settlers and named New Berlin. In 1918, in response to anti-German sentiment caused by World War I, the village changed its name to North Canton.” — Reader Dena L.

“Marietta, founded in 1788, is named for Marie Antoinette, then Queen of France, in honor of French aid in the American Revolution.” — Reader Pam R.
