History
The first woman to successfully fly around the world, Jerrie Mock, is from Columbus (Bexley, to be specific). Her trailblazing flight took off from Port Columbus Airport in 1964 in a single-engine plane dubbed “Spirit of Columbus.”
Landmarks
Legendary skater Tony Hawk also has roots back to Columbus as his father, Frank Hawk, designed the skate park in Dodge Park in the 1990s.
Sports
Ohio Stadium, capable of holding 102,780 fans, is the third largest football stadium in the country. However, the stadium’s largest crowd size is 110,045 people in 2016 when the Buckeyes defeated Michigan in double overtime.

Is another Aldi headed to Columbus? Local developers are proposing a 37-acre project in Westerville that includes space for a new Aldi. The plans also include food options, but it hasn’t been decided if that will be restaurants or a food hall. (NBC4)
Open
The Pizza Rover is a newly opened food truck bringing wood-fired pizza to the people. The crew plans to pop-up around town in their 22-ft custom trailer, so keep an eye out for them on Foodtruckfinder. (614now)
Eat
Cava isn’t done with its central Ohio expansion. Not only is the popular fast-casual chain opening in Polaris, it’s also planning on bringing another location to Hilliard inside a now-closed Skyline. No timetable or next plans were released by Cava. (NBC4)
Drink
Welcome to the Old North, Joey’s Place. This new sports bar is now open at 2333 N. High St., which was previously Alana’s Food and Wine, and hopes to have its kitchen fully operational in time for Buckeye football kickoff.
Sports
FOX Sports commentator and podcaster Joel Klatt is coming to Columbus for Ohio State’s home opener against Texas. Klatt is filming a live edition of his podcast on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. in Browning Amphitheater.
Outdoors
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is carefully rehabilitating a local baby bald eagle, Star, who is currently in critical condition. The good news is Star seems to be making progress and they plan to get her all the way back to a “clean bill of health.” (The Columbus Dispatch)

Historic Crew Stadium is making history. It will be the host of the Mid-American Conference women’s soccer tournament for the first time in 2025. Even better, the tournament will be right back in CBUS in 2026. (NBC4)
