The first day of spring is Sun., Mar. 20, which means outdoor winter activities are in their final weeks. Be sure to try some of these cold-weather adventures before stepping into a new season.
Igloos
- Beer garden igloos at Land-Grant Brewing Co. are kid and dog friendly, heated, and come for free with any reserved brewing curling lane. All igloo experiences at Land-Grant end on Mon., Mar. 14 in preparation for spring.
- Other seasonal igloos can be found at VASO, The Royce, Lumin Sky Bar and Kitchen, and The Beeline.
Skiing + snowboarding
- Mad River Mountain is the closest skiing destination to Columbus and is set to close in mid-March. The resort is open Mon.-Fri. from 3-9 p.m. and Sat.-Sun. from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Pro tip: The resort will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 21 for President’s Day.
Ice skating
- Outdoor ice skating at Riverside Crossing Park Ice Rink is $10 per skater and includes skate rentals. The rink is open Friday from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday + Sunday from 12-9 p.m. The rink’s last day of the season is Sun., Mar. 13.
- Easton Town Center also has free ice skating + skate rentals available through Wed., Feb. 23, at their new outdoor rink.
Winter hikes
- Enjoy a hike these final two Saturdays of February at Glacier Ridge, Pickerington Ponds, Rocky Fork, Scioto Grove, Slate Run, or Walnut Woods where campfires will be available from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. to warm you up before or after your hike.
- The Winter Hike Celebration will be held on Sun., Feb. 27 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Blacklick Woods Golf Course and will have hot chocolate, a fire, and a skating rink to enjoy after your hike.
