With Tuesday being the start of early voting in Columbus, the election cycle for the May 3 primary is in full swing. Since the last time we touched on this, there’s been even more changes (believe it or not) so today, we are getting you primed for the primary.

What’s on the ballot 📝

The spring election will have a wide variety of races — this includes governor and lieutenant governor; local issues and levies; and three judge seats on the Ohio Supreme Court. For a full breakdown on candidates + issues, the Franklin County Board of Elections has an online ballot that can be downloaded and printed.

Perhaps most notably is what’s not going to be on the ballot. Due to the battle over the redistricting map, state senators, state representatives, and members of the State Central Committee will not be on the ballot.

Important dates to remember 🗓

With early voting in-process, the deadline to request an absentee ballot is Sat., April 30 at noon. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Mon., May 2. And for those looking to vote in-person, the polls are open weekdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with extended hours as the election grows closer.

On election day, polls will open at 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
