March is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy rising temperatures. Columbus Metro Parks has fun spring events planned for the month, and it’s all free. Here’s what you can expect:

🐸 Amphibian Search

If you like slimy critters like salamanders and frogs, head to Rocky Fork Metro Park on Saturday, March 11 from 2-3 p.m. Here, you’ll go on a 1.5-mile hike searching for amphibians that come out in the early spring.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Hike

Celebrate the luck of the Irish with a 4-mile off-trail hike at Clear Creek Metro Park on Friday, March 17 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be plenty of natural greenery to set the mood.

🎒 Spring Backpacking Series

Beginning on Monday, March 13, the Outdoor Adventure team will host a seven-week series at Scioto Grove Metro Park to learn about backpacking. You’ll learn about safety, shelter, food and water, and maps. Gear will be provided for demonstrations and an overnight trip will conclude the series.

🦅 Eagle Watch

Use a spotting scope at Pickerington Ponds Metro Park to observe nesting bald eagles on Saturday, March 25 from 2-3:30 p.m. Participants will only need to walk a half of a mile round-trip.

Pro tip: Aside from monthly events, you can always visit the Columbus Metro Parks trails and parks on your own time as well.
