ComFest is back this weekend, and Goodale Park is getting ready for a party.

From Friday, June 23-Sunday, June 25, ComFest will take over the Short North park with live music, a variety of vendors, and plenty of food and drink options. The volunteer-ran event is free and family-friendly — though we’ll be the first to remind everyone of the no shirt, no problem policy.

If you’re looking to plan your day, the schedule can be found online. Plus, if you can’t make it, most of these shows will be live streamed on YouTube. Here are a few to watch, preferably in-person with a beer in hand:
  • Comedy Showcase hosted by Wonder Doug | Friday, June 23 | 9:15 p.m. | Peace & Healing Stage | Stand-up comedy
  • Zoo Trippin’ | Friday, June 23 | 10 p.m. | Bozo Stage | Progressive rock
  • The Speakeasy | Saturday, June 24 | 8:05 p.m. | Live Arts Stage | Mix of local artists
  • Deeptones | Sunday, June 25 | 3 p.m. | Bozo Stage | Funk and soul

This year, ComFest partnered with the Museum at Bethel Woods for an oral history project on festivals in the 60s-70s. Whether that was the original ComFest in 1972 or Woodstock in 1969 — experts will be on-hand to record oral histories from past attendees. And, if you want more history, the ComFest Museum that holds 51 years of ComFest memories will be open all weekend.

No festival is complete without food, and ComFest has plenty of options. Local favorites like Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Dos Hermanos, or Lavash Café will be available in food trucks. National vendors will also be on site offering fair foods like corn dogs, funnel cakes, and lemon shake-ups. Either way, pick up drink tokens to wash it all down with a beer from Columbus Brewing Company.

Getting outdoors in Columbus has never been so rewarding thanks to Experience Columbus + the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission.

These two groups have partnered to create the Columbus Outdoor Trails Pass, a digital passport that lets you check in at different parks to earn rewards at local businesses. The passport also comes with tips for each trail you are visiting, including how to find bald eagle nests, waterfalls, and scenic spots.

The process is easy, too. Signing up is done online and no apps are needed. Instead, users will be sent a passport via email or text. Once they have it, they can turn on GPS location services on their phone while on the trail to log the adventure in the passport.

Not sure where to start? Experience Columbus created itineraries that take hikers on a 7.5-mile journey, or a lengthier 18-mile quest.

Could yesterday’s weather been any more perfect? I had the windows open all day with just the slightest breeze rolling in. I think it’s safe to say it’s summertime in CBUS.
