As building proposals move forward + construction projects begin, these are the top development stories from September.
Projects
OhioHealth’s $600 million expansion moves forward
The Downtown Columbus Commission gave its seal of approval for a 40,000-sqft building that includes a five-story parking garage. Construction is already underway.
Phase II of The Peninsula
This second phase is set to begin in 2024 and end in 2027, with $290 million worth of construction planned. It also brings a new grocery store, hotel, and Pins Mechanical Co. to Franklinton once complete.

Local Pepsi-affiliated warehouse to be expanded
Did you know some Pepsi products are bottled in Columbus? It happens at G&J Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, located in Milo Grogan, and the factory will undergo a $22 million expansion.
Amazon to invest $3.5 billion in New Albany
Five new data centers will support online services for the tech company, such as streaming and shopping. The project also aims to stimulate the local economy through tax revenue.
20,000-sqft “eatertainment” center in the works
Punch Bowl Social will open inside Gravity, located at 440 W. State St., with a full menu of food and drinks + shuffle board, bowling, and arcade games. It plans to open spring 2024.
New go-kart center is coming soon
K1 Speed, an international go-kart and entertainment company, is coming to Columbus sometime in the future, according to its website. A local developer told 614now they expressed interest in land on Fishinger Boulevard.

400+ acre site proposed near Intel
Developers met for advice on this huge project that could land near Intel within 10 years. Things are still unclear, so stay tuned.

Saturday, Sept. 30

The Original Pancake House — not to be confused with IHOP — is opening a third location in New Albany in 2024. The locally-owned breakfast spot said the new eatery is under construction. In the meantime, the other locations are in Upper Arlington + Westerville. (NBC4)

Spend an evening on Grandview Avenue at Grandview Hop on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 5-9 p.m. The road will close at 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the event, which includes local food trucks, pop-up vendors, and adult drinks.
Biz
Ohio awarded Intel a $600 million grant in support of the semiconductor factory in New Albany. The $20 billion factory will bring in 3,000+ jobs, and Intel is now committed to having the project finished by 2028. Intel has already invested $3 billion into this project. (The Columbus Dispatch)
Festival
Into the Woods Fest, a music festival with 10 bands, is taking place at Jeffrey Park in Bexley on Saturday, Oct. 7. The concert is free to attend, and features other entertainment options like a silent disco and kid zone.
Closed
Mikey’s Late Night Slice closed its Woodland’s Backyard location at 668 Grandview Ave. The popular pizzeria took to Instagram to thank Woodland’s + the community for three years of support, especially during uncertain times in 2020.
